Biography

Dr. Sudhir Sudhakar Pendke, Dean of Shri Shankaracharya Institute of Medical Sciences (SSIMS), is a distinguished academician and clinician with an illustrious career spanning over three decades. He earned his M.S. (Ophthalmology) degree and has since dedicated his professional life to advancing medical education, patient care, and research in ophthalmology.

With over 35 years of experience in undergraduate teaching and 30 years in postgraduate teaching, Dr. Pendke has shaped the careers of countless medical professionals. He has served in several government medical colleges across Maharashtra, steadily rising through the ranks from Assistant Professor to Professor and Head of Department. His tenure at Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College, Yavatmal, as Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, remains a testament to his leadership and academic excellence.

 

Experience

Dr. Pendke is a highly skilled surgeon with proficiency in advanced ophthalmic procedures, including phacoemulsification cataract surgeries, glaucoma surgeries, and paediatric ophthalmic operations. His extensive clinical expertise has enabled him to conduct thousands of surgeries each year, catering to patients from both rural and urban healthcare settings. His ability to balance teaching, research, and clinical care reflects his dedication to holistic medical practice.

In addition to his surgical expertise, he has been actively engaged in medical education for decades, mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students. As a postgraduate guide, he has supervised numerous research projects, contributing to the growth of evidence-based ophthalmology in India. His students acknowledge his commitment to academic rigor, practical learning, and patient-centered care.
